EPD: Plastic shell chair, 4.48 kg/unit, EPC-RE (Vitra)
The Eames Plastic Chairs are updated versions of the legendary Fiberglass Chair. As the very first industrially produced plastic chair, it was originally developed by the Eameses in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Low-Cost Furniture Design competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art. Besides the Eames Plastic Chair in polypropylene, the design is also available as the Eames Fiberglass Chair made of glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin. With its simple organic shape, the moulded seat shell of the Plastic Chairs now seems like an archetype for the category of chairs whose shell can be paired with diverse bases. The wide selection of bases makes it possible to use the chairs in a broad range of settings: from the dining room or home office to the garden. Combined with a choice of colours and different upholstery versions, it is possible to create the perfect chair for individual needs.
