EPD: Portland cement, CEM I 52.5 R/N, 2910 kg/m3 (Holcim Belgique SA)

Cement is a hydraulic binder, i.e. a finely ground inorganic material which, when mixed with water, forms a paste which sets and hardens by means of hydration reactions and processes and which, after hardening, retains its strength and stability even under water. Cement is an intermediate product in the building sector and is mainly used as a binder for concrete, mortar or cement screed. Portland cements or CEM I cements have only one main constituent: Portland clinker. This EPD is a specific EPD of the 4 CEM I’s produced in Holcim Belgium’s integrated cement plant in Obourg. The differences in composition are only minor. The main differences concern fineness (R vs N) and alkali content (standard versus ng).
