The hot rolled coil is cold reduced. Cold reduction involves pickling (acid cleaning) the coil, followed by cold rolling, where the steel coil is compressed and elongated through rolls to reduce its thickness and increase the strength of the steel. Following cold reduction, the coil is coated with BlueScope‘s industry-leading aluminium/zinc/magnesium alloy incorporating Activate technology. The metal coated coil is then transferred to a paint line, where it is coated with a pre‑treatment to improve paint adhesion, followed by a primer and topcoat and backing coat, prior to packaging ready for shipment.
