Celsius is the Tata Steel trade name for hot finished structural hollow sections (sometimes referred to as ‘tubes’), manufactured from normalised, fine grain steel in a range of circular, square, rectangular and elliptical shaped tubes. They are fully stress-relieved with uniform mechanical properties, and manufactured to standard grades in a range of sizes from 21.3 to 508 mm, with wall thicknesses from 2.6 to 16 mm. The full range of Celsius® products are included in this EPD. The Celsius® brand offers strong, light, cost-effective and aesthetically appealing structural steel hollow sections to help meet and exceed the most demanding and challenging applications, combining high yield strength with lower carbon content for improved weldability and fabrication. These applications include large-scale construction and building projects where the product’s strength and weldability is suitable for both internal and external structural use, including multi-storey columns, space frames, and lattice beams. The sections can also be used in the offshore industry for both primary and secondary applications, and for industrial and ‘offhighway’ vehicles, such as cranes, excavators, bulldozers and dumper trucks. As a hot finished product, the properties of Celsius® provide opportunities for reduced environmental impact through minimising weight and efficiency gains during fabrication, when compared to a cold formed structural hollow section of the same size and thickness. • At high or low temperatures, Celsius® provides higher loadbearing capacities and better structural performance than cold-formed structural hollow sections • Under all loading conditions, Celsius® has superior ductility to cold formed structural hollow sections, ideal for designs requiring resistance to fire, collision, impacts, explosions or earthquakes • Unlike cold formed structural hollow sections, Celsius® has no residual stresses from the manufacturing process, thereby presenting less risk during processing and fabrication
