Both the Von Duprin QEL and the Falcon MEL Latch Retraction Kits are exit device electronic latch retraction add-ons designed for commercial use. The Von Duprin QEL is mainly comprised of a motor, a PCB, an action rod and a power cable. The motor is controlled by the PCB and powered through the cable to drive the action rod to achieve door latch retraction. The QEL can be purchased separately but according to its instruction manual, if existing device is fire rated or less dogging, a QEL baseplate conversion kit is required. A QEL baseplate conversion kit (QEL Assembly) is an assembly of QEL module with the baseplate of the exit device. Both QEL and QEL assembly are offered to upgrade compatible exit devices to electrified version.
